aeCERT organizes a series of workshops for UAE students and parents in line with Safer Internet Day

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced the participation of the UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT) in the international ‘Safer Internet Day’ (SID) on March 11th by hosting a series of workshops attended by more than 300 students from 16 public schools in Dubai. The five day event was hosted by Al Salam School in Dubai under the theme "Society without Internet Threats” and aimed to reduce the spread of cyber-crimes.

TRA Hosts Workshop for Students at International Community School Abu Dhabi

The nation’s ICT regulator conducts Social Media and Cyber Security session for students in grades 7 - 10

As part of its ongoing effort to engage with the community and support the education system in the UAE, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and its subsidiary the United Arab Emirates Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT) held two bespoke workshops at Abu Dhabi’s International Community School on Thursday, November 7th, 2013. With participating students from grades 7 to 12, the workshops were interactive sessions and provided a unique platform for senior officials from the nation’s ICT regulator to discuss and promote safe online practices.

TRA Defends a Cyber-attack Attempt

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced that it has successfully defended a series of cyber-attack attempts on Friday evening 19 July 2013. The attacks targeted and attempted to damage some governmental websites. The Computer Emergency Response Team aeCERT managed to neutralize the danger and fix the problem with minimal damage caused.

 Commenting on this matter, H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, said: “From the first moment of the attack, our approach was twofold, first to defend the websites that have been targeted, and the second is to identify the attack’s source. We confirmed that the attempts started in Egypt and acting accordingly, we contacted the concerned authorities in Egypt to coordinate our efforts on this matter. We agreed to provide the Egyptian authorities with a list of IPs which started the attack and we hope the necessary measures will be taken to stop such activity and identify those responsible.”

Cyber Security Becomes Core Part of UAE Curriculum

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) this week ran a collaborative program with its subsidiary body the United Arab Emirates Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) designed to boost cyber security awareness among students at all stages of education. The initiative trained nearly 500 1st to 12th grade teachers from every emirate on IT security best-practice, providing the core knowledge needed to enhance the IT curriculum.
