"Injazat Data Systems" Signs a MoU with the TRA to Become an Accredited Registrar of the UAE Domain Name (.ae) & Signs a MoU with the aeCERT of the TRA to Secure its IT Infrastructure

4 August, 2009

“Injazat Data Systems”, the leading information technology and business process managed services provider in the UAE and the Middle East, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to become an accredited registrar of the UAE Domain Name (.ae).

Under the terms of the agreement, “Injazat” will become an accredited registrar of the UAE national domain name (.ae). Although the Internet users in the Middle East grew by 1.296% from 2000 to 2008, Arabic content currently accounts for less than 1% of all online content. The UAE is one of the region’s most prolific Internet users, with a penetration rate of 43%. The agreement between “Injazat” and the TRA aims to leverage this solid rate to encourage even more online activity from UAE users. The TRA has been regulating the UAE national domain names through its .ae Domain Administration (.aeDA) department since 2007.

To this end, Ibrahim Lari, ‘Injazat’ CEO, said: “This agreement marks a major milestone for ‘Injazat’ and significantly expands our IT services portfolio. The UAE rapidly growing Internet market requires constant expansions in capabilities, services and infrastructure. Our accreditation as a domain registrar will enable us to better assist the TRA in its goal of creating an optimal enabling environment for the UAE Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.”

“Injazat” signed another MoU with the UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), one of the TRA initiatives, to secure its Information Technology (IT) infrastructure; where the signing ceremony took place at “Injazat” headquarters.

In this respect, H.E. Mohamed Al Ghanim, the TRA Director General, said: “The signing of both MoUs is considered an important step for the TRA to provide ‘Injazat’ with high-quality services.”

“The aeCERT aims to build national expertise in information security, incident management and computer forensics; provide a central trusted point of contact for cyber security incident reporting in the UAE; establish a national center to disseminate information about threats, vulnerabilities, and cyber security incidents; foster the establishment of, and provide assistance to, sector-based Computer Security Incidents Response Teams (CSIRTs); coordinate with domestic and international CSIRTs and related organizations; and become an active member of recognized security organizations and forums,” added Al Ghanim.

The TRA has been established according to the UAE Federal Law by Decree No. 3 of 2003 – Telecom Law, where the organizational objectives of the TRA are derived from the UAE Telecommunications Law, its Executive Order and the UAE National Telecommunications Policy. The TRA performs its duties based on the values of transparency, fairness, credibility, sector participation, Emiratization, creativity, and awareness.

“Injazat Data Systems” is a joint venture between Mubadala Development Co. and EDS, an HP company that encompasses a 46 years of global expertise in the IT managed services industry. “Injazat” holds more than 50% of the UAE IT outsourcing market, is the owner of the first Tier IV design certified Data center in the region, and the only one of its kind outside of North America.
