To Peak its Awareness Campaign to Build a Safe Cyber Culture, the aeCERT of the TRA Introduces SALIM: Your Cyber Security Advisor

28 September, 2009

Committed to launch initiatives that will result in developing the ICT sector, the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), represented by one of its initiatives, the UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), introduces SALIM, the Emirati Cyber Security Advisor, following the first phase of the awareness campaign on how to prevent Internet threats. SALIM will help you with tips that will protect you against cyber threats and guide you towards a safe cyber culture in the UAE.

SALIM is the peak of the advertising awareness campaign that the aeCERT launched around the end of last June to enhance the standards and practices of IT security in the UAE, and to introduce the ways of protecting the IT information in order to insure a safe cyber culture. The campaign then included most of the known advertising means such as promotions in printing press of the leading newspapers and magazines, radio stations, Internet links, and the most popular websites.

The aeCERET is one of the TRA initiatives established to apply its strategy to support a safe cyberspace in the UAE, where the aeCERT was accredited by the Ministerial Council for Services Direct Number (5/89) for 2008 as the National CERT of the UAE, to facilitate the detection, prevention and response of cyber security incidents on the Internet.

The aeCERT objectives are to enhance the cyber security law and assist in the creation of new laws; enhance information security awareness across the UAE; build national expertise in information security, incident management and computer forensics; provide a central trusted point of contact for cyber security incident reporting in the UAE; establish a national center to disseminate information about threats, vulnerabilities, and cyber security incidents; foster the establishment of and provide assistance to sector-based Computer Security Incidents Response Teams (CSIRTs); coordinate with domestic and international CSIRTs and related organizations; and become an active member of recognized security organizations and forums.
